Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join a cloud-focused engineering team in Sandton, Gauteng. Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems powering our cloud offerings, with emphasis on distributed microservices and robust infrastructure.

You will work with AWS/Azure/GCP, Docker/Kubernetes, RESTful APIs, and CI/CD pipelines to ensure performance and reliability, in a hybrid on-site/remote setup in Sandton.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of backend software development experience with cloud infrastructure.
• Proficiency in Go, Python, Java, or Node.js.
• Extensive experience with AWS/Azure/GCP and services like EC2, S3, Lambda, Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of microservices, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes; familiarity with CI/CD practices.
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Networking and security best practices in cloud environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy scalable backend services.
• Build and maintain microservices architecture for seamless inter-service communication.
• Develop and manage cloud infrastructure across AWS/Azure/GCP (compute, storage, networking).
• Implement robust APIs for internal and external use with security and performance in mind.
• Optimize performance, identify bottlenecks, and improve scalability.
• Write clean, tested code following coding standards.
• Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and product teams to deliver features.
• Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and drive architectural decisions.
• Stay current with emerging cloud technologies and trends.
