Placements24 seeks a Senior Aviation Meteorologist to join our client’s team in Paarl, Western Cape. This hybrid role provides weather intelligence for flight operations, advising pilots, airlines and ATC on weather impacts. You’ll analyze data, produce forecasts and support safety and efficiency in aviation.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s in meteorology with aviation specialization, 7+ years’ experience, and strong communication and modeling skills to support operational decision-making.

About the Role

Our client, a leading provider of aviation support services, is looking for an experienced Senior Aviation Meteorologist to join their team based in Paarl, Western Cape. This hybrid role will focus on providing critical weather information and forecasting services to support flight operations, ensuring safety and efficiency. You will be responsible for analyzing complex meteorological data, generating specialized aviation forecasts, and advising pilots, airlines, and air traffic control on weather-related impacts. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of atmospheric science, weather modeling, and the specific meteorological challenges faced in aviation. You will play a key role in enhancing operational decision-making through accurate and timely weather intelligence. Key Responsibilities

• Analyze meteorological data from various sources, including satellites, radar, surface observations, and numerical weather prediction models.
• Generate and disseminate aviation-specific weather forecasts, including terminal aerodrome forecasts (TAFs), area forecasts (ARFORs), and SIGMETs.
• Provide real-time weather advisories and briefings to flight crews, dispatchers, and air traffic control.
• Monitor weather conditions and alert relevant personnel to significant weather phenomena that could impact aviation safety and operations (e.g., thunderstorms, turbulence, icing, fog).
• Develop and refine meteorological models and algorithms for aviation forecasting.
• Collaborate with operational teams to assess the impact of weather on flight planning and airspace management.
• Conduct research into aviation meteorology to improve forecasting techniques and enhance service delivery.
• Maintain accurate weather records and documentation.
• Participate in cross-functional team meetings and provide meteorological expertise.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of weather-related safety procedures.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field with a specialization in aviation meteorology.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in aviation meteorology, with a strong focus on forecasting and operational support.
