Placements24 is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer for a fully remote role in South Africa. You will design, develop, and implement automation systems including PLCs, robotics, and vision, for diverse manufacturing customers.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree and 7+ years of experience in industrial automation, with strong PLC/HMI, robotics, and networking skills. You will collaborate with clients and internal teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, CS, or related field.
• At least 7 years hands-on industrial automation experience.
• Proficient in PLC platforms (Siemens S7, Rockwell).
• Robotics programming and integration experience.
• Strong knowledge of industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Profibus).
• Experience with SCADA systems.
• Ability to work remotely and collaborate with global clients.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Design, program, and commission PLC control systems for various industrial applications using platforms such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, and Omron.
• Develop and integrate robotic systems (e.g., KUKA, FANUC, ABB) into automated manufacturing lines.
• Create and maintain detailed electrical schematics, P&IDs, and automation logic documentation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation issues, both remotely and potentially on-site for critical projects.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers and clients to define automation requirements and develop solutions.
• Implement machine vision systems, safety circuits, and HMI interfaces.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in automation technology, robotics, and industrial control systems.
• Provide technical support and training to clients and internal teams as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in industrial automation engineering.
• Extensive programming experience with major PLC platforms (Siemens S7, Rockwell ControlLogix/CompactLogix) and HMI development.
• Proven experience with industrial robotics programming and integration (KUKA, FANUC, ABB preferred).
• Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Profibus).
• Experience with SCADA systems and data acquisition.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fully remote environment.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
