Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Analytical Scientist to lead analytical method development and validation in a pharmaceutical development setting in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. The role focuses on ensuring API and drug product quality through rigorous analytical work.

The candidate should have a Ph.D. or Master’s in Analytical Chemistry or related field, with 7+ years in pharma analytics, including HPLC/UPLC/GC and MS, and a strong grasp of ICH, USP/EP, and cGMP requirements.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in analytical method development and validation within the pharmaceutical industry.
• Expertise in chromatographic techniques (HPLC, UPLC, GC) and their application to pharmaceutical analysis.
• Proficiency with mass spectrometry (LC-MS, GC-MS) and spectroscopic methods.
• Strong understanding of ICH guidelines, USP/EP pharmacopeias, and cGMP requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and transfer analytical methods for APIs and drug products.
• Perform routine testing using HPLC/UPLC/GC/MS/FTIR/UV-Vis and dissolution testing.
• Analyze and interpret analytical data; troubleshoot method issues and document findings.
• Ensure all activities comply with cGMP, ICH guidelines, and regulatory standards.
• Write detailed method validation protocols and reports.
• Collaborate with formulation scientists, process chemists, and QA teams to support development milestones.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and calibration.
