About the Role

Our client, a prominent pharmaceutical company, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Analytical Development Scientist specializing in chromatography to join their Analytical Development department in Kimberley, Northern Cape. This role is crucial for developing, validating, and implementing robust analytical methods for drug substance and drug product characterization, quality control, and stability testing. You will work with advanced chromatographic techniques (HPLC, GC, LC-MS) and other analytical instrumentation to support drug development programs. This is a laboratory-based position requiring your presence and expertise on-site.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and validate analytical methods for the identification, quantification, and impurity profiling of drug substances and drug products using HPLC, GC, UPLC, LC-MS, and GC-MS.
• Transfer validated analytical methods to QC or other testing laboratories.
• Characterize raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.
• Design and execute stability studies to assess product shelf‑life and degradation pathways.
• Troubleshoot analytical instrumentation and resolve method‑related issues.
• Document all development activities, protocols, validation reports, and scientific findings thoroughly and accurately.
• Ensure all activities comply with GMP, GLP, and relevant regulatory guidelines.
• Collaborate with formulation, process development, and regulatory affairs teams.
• Stay current with scientific literature, new technologies, and regulatory expectations in analytical development.
• Mentor junior scientists and provide technical guidance.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical analytical development, with a strong focus on chromatographic techniques.
• In-depth knowledge of HPLC, UPLC, GC, LC‑MS, and their applications in pharmaceutical analysis.
• Experience with method validation according to ICH guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Proficiency in using chromatographic software (e.g., Empower, Chromeleon).
• Strong understanding of GMP and regulatory compliance in pharmaceutical development.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and data interpretation skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to author technical documents.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively.
