Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Aircraft Systems Engineer for our Johannesburg client. You will lead the design, integration, and testing of avionics, power, hydraulics and environmental control systems throughout the lifecycle of complex aircraft platforms.

You will analyze system performance, troubleshoot issues, develop documentation, and mentor junior engineers. A strong aerospace background and DO-178C/DO-254 familiarity are highly valued, with FAA/EASA knowledge beneficial.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical or related engineering field.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in aircraft systems engineering with focus on design, integration and testing.
• Proven expertise in at least two major aircraft systems (e.g., avionics, flight controls, power distribution, environmental systems).
• Proficiency with system modeling/simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS).
• Strong knowledge of aviation standards/regulations (EASA, FAA).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities; strong communication and teamwork.
• DO-178C or DO-254 is desirable; familiarity with CM processes.
• Eligibility to work in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, integration and testing of aircraft systems (avionics, power, hydraulics, environmental).
• Perform in-depth analysis, troubleshooting, and provide timely solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless system integration.
• Develop and maintain system documentation (specifications, test procedures, manuals).
• Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation per aviation regulations.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing.
• Stay updated on technologies and industry best practices in aircraft systems engineering.
• Contribute to bidding and proposals with technical estimations.
