Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Agricultural Engineer with specialization in mechanization to lead and optimize the farm's machinery fleet. The role emphasizes hands-on field work, maintenance planning, and overseeing a team of mechanics in a large-scale farming operation in the Northern Cape.

The ideal candidate has a degree in Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering and at least six years of experience in farm mechanization, with strong hydraulics, diesel engines, and electrical systems expertise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in agricultural engineering focused on mechanization.
• Proven expertise in maintenance, repair and operation of field machinery.
• Strong leadership and team management abilities.
• Familiarity with hydraulics, diesel engines and electrical systems in farm equipment.
• Experience managing workshops, spare parts inventory, and maintenance schedules.
• Willingness to relocate to Kimberley, Northern Cape.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement maintenance, repair, and servicing plans for all machinery and equipment.
• Oversee selection, procurement, and deployment of new machinery to meet operational needs.
• Ensure safe and efficient operation of all mechanized systems on the farm.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and technical issues with farm equipment.
• Optimize machinery use for planting, cultivation, harvest, and transport.
• Manage a team of mechanics and operators, providing training and supervision.
• Develop and manage budgets for machinery acquisition, maintenance, and spares inventory.
• Stay updated on advances in mechanization and related technologies.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards.
• Analyze operational data to identify efficiency improvements and cost savings.
