Job summary

A well-established Commodity Trading company in Fourways, JHB, is seeking a Senior Accountant. The ideal candidate will manage financial transactions and reporting while ensuring compliance with accounting regulations. Responsibilities include cashbook reviews, reconciliations, and financial planning. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting and significant experience is required. Competitive salary is offered based on experience.

Qualifications

• 5 years post-articles experience, with 2 years in mining/commodity trading.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in accounting software (SAGE, E-Filing) and MS Office.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• High attention to detail and accuracy; effective communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Review cashbook for completeness and accuracy of transactions.
• Reconcile customer and supplier balances.
• Perform cost variance analysis.
• Assist in financial planning and analysis activities.
• Review records to ensure accuracy of financial transactions and inventories.
• Maintain payment schedules and processing; follow up on outstanding payments.
• Assist in audit file preparation and enforce accounting policies and controls.
• Collaborate with internal departments, vendors and auditors on financials.
• Participate in financial planning, costing, and project accounting controls.

RPO Recruitment's client, a well-established Commodity Trading company, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team of professionals in Fourways, JHB. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing their financial transactions and reporting, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This position will require excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Responsibilities:

• Review cashbook to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial transactions
• Reconcile Cashbook Monthly
• Reconcile Customer Balances - Age Analysis
• Reconcile Supplier Balances - Age Analysis
• Perform all Balance Sheet Reconciliations
• Maintain Asset Register
• Property, plant and equipment & depreciation maintenance
• Review to ensure accurate records of all financial transactions
• Maintain inventory records
• Maintaining Payment Schedule and loading payments
• Assists with following up on outstanding payments
• Perform cost variance analysis and identify areas for cost reduction
• Assist in preparation of audit file
• Assist in implementing and enforcing accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Collaborate with internal departments, external vendors and auditors
• Assist in financial planning and analysis activities
• Report back on a weekly basis on costing on each project
• Project and Cost accounting controls for all projects
• Proactively manage Suppliers and Customer accounts
• Oversee asset management
• Month end closing process

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
