Job summary

Smart4 Energy in Cape Town seeks a Senior Accountant/Senior Financial Accountant to join its South African finance team. This hands-on role covers IFRS compliance, month-end/year-end close, intercompany accounting and multi-entity reporting across 20+ entities.

The ideal candidate has 6–8+ years in accounting within a multinational setting, strong ERP experience (SAP) and a track record in statutory reporting and audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level accounting degree and relevant professional qualifications.
• CA(SA), AGA(SA), CIMA or equivalent qualifications advantageous.

• Experience in multinational/group finance environment.

Senior Accountant / Senior Financial Accountant

Location: Cape Town

Working Model: Hybrid – 3 days in office

Package: Up to R1.1 million CTC + maximum 10% performance bonus

Role Overview

An established international organisation operating within the renewable energy and infrastructure sector is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Accountant / Senior Financial Accountant to join its South African finance team.

The position forms part of a complex, multi-entity finance environment supporting 20+ legal entities, including holding and project companies. The successful candidate will take responsibility for financial and statutory reporting, IFRS compliance, month-end and year-end processes, reconciliations, intercompany accounting and oversight of external accounting providers.

This is a hands‑on position suited to an experienced finance professional who is comfortable operating within a fast‑paced multinational environment with demanding group reporting deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly, annual and statutory financial statements and reporting packs.
• Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with IFRS and group reporting standards.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes across multiple legal entities.
• Review balance‑sheet and general‑ledger reconciliations.
• Manage intercompany accounting, reconciliations and mismatch resolution.
• Prepare and review consolidation and group reporting entries.
• Review statutory submissions including VAT, PAYE and payroll‑related returns.
• Coordinate the preparation of annual statutory financial statements.
• Maintain IFRS compliance across local entities.
• Liaise with external auditors and coordinate audit requirements.
• Review work completed by internal and external accountants/bookkeepers.
• Support the onboarding and accounting setup of new legal/project entities.
• Work across ERP and consolidation/reporting systems, including SAP and Hyperion or comparable enterprise systems.
• Liaise with operational and corporate teams to investigate and resolve accounting issues.
• Support Head Office with monthly reporting packs, ad‑hoc reporting and financial enquiries.
• Supervise/review the work of finance team members and provide guidance where required.
• Continuously strengthen financial controls, processes and reporting accuracy.

Candidate Requirements

Essential / Highly Preferred

• BCom Accounting / Financial Accounting or related degree.
• BCom Honours in Accounting strongly preferred.
• CA(SA), AGA(SA), CIMA or equivalent professional accounting qualification highly advantageous.
• Approximately 6–8+ years' relevant accounting/financial reporting experience.
• Strong practical knowledge of IFRS.
• Experience working in a multinational and/or group finance environment.
• Strong financial reporting and statutory reporting exposure.
• Experience managing multiple legal entities.Strong reconciliations, general ledger and intercompany accounting experience.
• Previous audit/articles experience advantageous, particularly Big Four or large audit practice.
• Experience reviewing or supervising the work of other accountants.
• Strong ERP exposure; SAP highly advantageous.
• Hyperion, OneStream or comparable consolidation/group reporting experience advantageous.
• Strong Excel and financial systems capability.

Ideal Industry Exposure

Experience within renewable energy, energy, infrastructure, engineering, construction, utilities, project companies, asset‑intensive businesses or other multinational environments would be highly advantageous.

The successful candidate will be organised, technically strong and comfortable managing multiple priorities simultaneously. They should be proactive, able to work independently, confident dealing with complex accounting issues and comfortable operating under tight month‑end and year‑end reporting deadlines.
