Job summary

PwC South Africa's Technology & Innovation Centre (SATIC) invites applications for the Lead Digital Developer role in Insurance Tech. Based in Johannesburg or Cape Town on a hybrid in-office model, you will drive digital insurance solutions using Guidewire JDP, React.js, and modern design systems.

You will mentor teams, coordinate with UX, product, and backend peers, and contribute to agile ceremonies and DevOps pipelines to deliver scalable digital experiences in the General Insurance space.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in frontend or full-stack development with 7+ years in Digital UX in General Insurance.
• Firsthand Guidewire Digital experience with JDP, APD, or Jutro.
• REST APIs and integration with core systems.
• Experience in Agile delivery with Jira/Azure DevOps/Confluence.
• Experience with Figma-based or other modern design systems.
• Cloud-native development and deployment practices.
• P&C insurance domain experience.
• Experience with MuleSoft, Azure DevOps, or CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to Guidewire APD, Gosu, or CDA.
• Familiarity with WCAG accessibility and responsive design.

Responsibilities

• Develop and customize digital insurance applications using Guidewire JDP, React.js, and design systems integrated with Figma.
• Build and maintain reusable components and micro frontends for Guidewire portals.
• Integrate frontends with Guidewire modules via Cloud APIs and GW Integration Gateway.
• Collaborate with UX designers, product owners, and backend developers to deliver seamless user experiences.
• Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives.
• Ensure code quality through unit testing, code reviews, and adherence to Guidewire's development standards.
• Support DevOps pipelines and CI/CD for digital deployments on Guidewire Cloud Platform.
• Demonstrated people-management including coaching, mentoring, and allocation of work.

The SATIC Insurance Tech team plays a vital role in enabling PwC's growth while protecting our reputation and brand. We are looking for a Digital Developer to join our Guidewire delivery team within Insurance Tech, responsible for building and customizing digital experiences using modern web technologies, insurance transformation, and agile delivery.].

The Lead Digital Developer can be based out of Johannesburg or Cape Town on a hybrid in-office model.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and customize digital insurance applications using Guidewire JDP, React.js, and Figma-integrated design systems
• Build and maintain reusable components and micro frontends for Guidewire's CustomerEngage and EnterpriseEngage portals
• Integrate digital frontends with Guidewire PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, and ClaimCenter via Cloud APIs and GW Integration Gateway
• Collaborate with UX designers, product owners, and backend developers to deliver seamless user experiences
• Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives
• Ensure code quality through unit testing, code reviews, and adherence to Guidewire's development standards
• Support DevOps pipelines and CI/CD automation for digital deployments on Guidewire Cloud Platform (GWCP)]
• Demonstrated people-management experience, including coaching, mentoring, capability assessment, development planning, and allocation of work

Requirements:

Experience & Track Record:

• 10+ years in frontend or full-stack development with 7+ years working with Digital UX development in General Insurance
• Guidewire Digital: Firsthand experience with JDP, APD, or Jutro SDK
• Integration: Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, and integration with core systems
• Agile Delivery: Experience working in agile squads using tools like Jira, Azure DevOps, or Confluence
• Design Collaboration: Ability to work with Figma-based or other modern design systems
• Cloud Readiness: Understanding of cloud-native development and deployment practices
• Experience in the P&C insurance domain
• Experience with MuleSoft, Azure DevOps, or CI/CD pipelines
• Exposure to Guidewire APD, Gosu, or Guidewire Cloud Data Access (CDA)
• Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and responsive design]

Qualifications:

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
• Guidewire certifications (Digital Developer, Cloud Developer, or Jutro advantageous)
• Relevant Platform Certification - Candidates who do not hold the required approved certification when joining must obtain it within the first 12 months of employment.
