Job summary

A leading mining company in Gauteng is seeking a Safety Officer to oversee the Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) management system on-site. The ideal candidate will have a National Diploma in Safety Management, SAMTRAC / COMSOC certifications, and at least 3 years of experience in mining safety. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and facilitating safety meetings.

Qualifications

  • 3 years' experience as a Safety Officer in mining is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and Regulations.
  • Valid Certificate of Fitness for mining is mandatory.

Safety Officer

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Type: Contractor

Overview

To implement, monitor, and advise on all aspects of the Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) management system on a mining site. The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), 1996 and other legislation to achieve a zero-harm working environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Legal Compliance & Administration
  • Maintain and update legal compliance documentation
  • Facilitate safety meetings and submit safety performance reports
Minimum Requirements
  • National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent
  • SAMTRAC / COMSOC 1&2 certification
  • 3 years' Safety Officer experience in mining
  • In-depth knowledge of MHSA and Regulations
  • Valid Certificate of Fitness for mining
Advantageous Requirements
  • SACPCMP registration as Candidate Construction Health and Safety Officer
  • Experience with ISO 45001-based Safety Management Systems
  • Blasting, First Aid Level 3, Firefighting certifications
  • Specific mining discipline experience
