Job summary

Telebest is looking for a Safety Officer in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The successful candidate will ensure safety compliance and conduct training within the organization. A National Diploma in Safety Management and 5 years of relevant experience are essential.

The role includes planning safety meetings, managing safety audits, and ensuring that all employees are trained in safe equipment use. The candidate must be a certificated Safety Practitioner, physically fit, and have excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Certificated Safety Practitioner with a National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent.
• 5 years experience in a heavy-duty plant and machinery environment.
• Experience in safety equipment and OHS act compliance.

Responsibilities

• Plan and maintain regularity of Safety meetings in Maintenance and Operations Departments.

Overview

Our client has an opportunity available for a Safety Officer.

Requirements

• Certificated Safety Practitioner and in possession of at least a National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent.
• 5 years similar work experience within a similar heavy-duty plant and machinery environment.
• Experienced in Safety Management and Accreditation processes.
• Experience in MS Office.
• Above average communications skills with different levels of Management and Employees.
• Work comfortably at heights and walking on gratings several stories high.
• Free of asthma and related illnesses.
• Must be physically fit.

Responsibilities

• Attend, arrange, plan and maintain regularity of Safety meetings in Maintenance and Operations Departments.
• Obtain the MSDS’s for the different raw materials handled and used in plants and ensure the safe use thereof.
• Carry out inspections, record and assist the different departments in the use of the safety equipment.
• Ensure the safety equipment complies with the requirements of the OHS act.
• Investigate, inspect, draw up safety procedures and train the employees in the methods for handling raw materials.
• Monitor the application and execution of safe work procedures by all employees.
• Record Safety Audits and Inspections carried out on plants and submit to Management on a three-month basis.
• Establish an alphabetic and numeric logical numbering system for the Safety Department.
• Plan and arrange that all employees are trained in the safe use of equipment, machinery, and plant.
• Ensure that employees safety training records are up to date.
• Work closely with the HR Department with regards to the arrangements of training and record keeping of such training.
• Ensure that all contractors and employees have undergone induction training and arrange refresher courses when necessary.
