Job summary

AFRICON Constructin C0mpany is seeking a Safety Officer to ensure all work complies with the company's safety management system, applicable acts and regulations. You will promote health and safety as a prime concern, implement and enforce the safety system, and report non-compliance to the Site Manager.

Responsibilities include conducting daily site visual inspections, weekly inspections of site conditions, compiling action logs and a monthly HSE Task Schedule for all departments, with reports

• Ensure work is performed in accordance with Company safety management system, acts and regulations.
• Promote a culture where Health and Safety is the prime concern and never compromised.
• Implement and enforce the Company Safety Management System.
• Ensure all Company health and safety requirements are met; report any issues to the Site Manager.
• Carry out risk assessments including Baseline, Issue Based, Operational and Continuous Risk Assessments.
• Ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
• Assist responsible persons to ensure work is performed by trained and competent personnel; report if not.
• Conduct daily site visual inspections and report findings to responsible persons.
• Conduct weekly documented site condition inspections and submit reports to Site Manager, Safety Manager and responsible persons.
• Compile an action log with input from responsible persons on findings and corrective actions.
• Compile a monthly HSE Task Schedule for all departments, including inspections, audits, meetings, etc.

Job description

To ensure that all work is performed in accordance with the requirements of the Company’s safety management system, Company safety management systems and all applicable acts and regulations.

Promote a culture in which Health and Safety is the prime concern and will never be compromised.

Implement and enforce the Company Safety Management System.

Ensure that all of the Company health and safety requirements are met. If this is not possible for whatever reason, the Safety Officer is to report this to the Site Manager.

Ensure that the required risk assessments are carried out. This shall include at least, but not limited to, Baseline, Issue Based, Operational Risk Assessments / Continuous Risk Assessments

Ensure compliance to legislative requirements.

Assist the responsible persons to ensure that all work is performed by suitably trained and competent persons. When this is not the case, report this to the responsible person of the area.

Conduct daily site visual inspections, and report all findings immediately to the relevant responsible persons.

Conduct weekly documented inspections of site conditions. These reports must be submitted to the Site Manager, Safety Manager and all relevant responsible persons.

Compile an action log, with input from all relevant responsible persons, on the findings and corrective actions of all documented inspections.

Compile a monthly HSE Task Schedule for all departments, including inspections, audits, meetings, etc.

36 Months Yearly renewable contract.
