Job summary

HotelJobs invites applications for a Safari Manager to oversee guiding operations at our lodge in Limpopo, South Africa. You will lead the guiding team, ensure safety, deliver memorable wildlife experiences, and uphold the lodge’s vision and standards.

The role requires strong leadership, proven Big 5 lodge experience, FGASA qualifications, ARH, and a passion for conservation and guest service. You will liaise with management and suppliers to maintain excellence and staff development.

Qualifications

  • FGASA Level 2 or equivalent guiding qualification.
  • Trails Guide qualification required or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a Safari Manager in luxury settings.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Experience guiding in Big 5 reserves and luxury lodges.
  • Valid PrDP and ARH qualifications.
  • Current Wilderness First Aid certification.
  • SAPS rifle competency and strong organisational skills.
  • Professional demeanour with ability to mentor staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and mentor the guiding team to ensure exceptional field operations.
  • Uphold and enforce operational standards across all guiding activities.
  • Monitor team performance and provide constructive feedback and development opportunities.
  • Interact with guests professionally, ensuring a personalized and memorable safari experience.
  • Maintain guiding equipment and vehicles, ensuring they meet safety and operational standards.
  • Collaborate with management to ensure seamless communication between lodge operations and field teams.
  • Promote conservation, environmental education, and responsible tourism practices to guests and staff.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local communities, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including firearm handling, permits, and wildlife regulations.

Job description

The Safari Manager is responsible for overseeing all guiding operations, mentoring and managing the guiding team, and ensuring the highest standards of safety, service, and wildlife interpretation. Acting as the main point of contact for guests in the field, you will deliver unforgettable safari experiences while maintaining operational excellence, fostering teamwork, and upholding the lodge’s vision and values.

Key Responsibilities

Skills & Competencies
  • Minimum FGASA Level 2 (NQF 4) or equivalent guiding qualification
  • Valid Trails Guide qualification
  • Proven experience as a Safari Manager
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Experience guiding in Big 5 reserves and luxury 5-star lodges
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP)
  • Current Wilderness First Aid certification
  • Valid Advanced Rifle Handling (ARH) qualification
  • SAPS business competency for rifle use
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills
  • Mature; professional, and responsible demeanour, with the ability to mentor and inspire a guiding team
