About the Role

Our client, a leading financial services group, is looking for a seasoned Risk Manager to oversee risk management frameworks for its diverse financial institution operations. This critical role, based remotely but requiring occasional travel to Pretoria, Gauteng , will involve identifying, assessing, and mitigating a broad spectrum of risks, including market, credit, operational, and compliance risks. You will be responsible for developing and implementing robust risk management strategies, policies, and procedures to safeguard the company's assets and reputation. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in risk management within the financial services sector, a strong understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., Basel accords, FICA), and exceptional analytical and leadership skills. This is a remote-first position offering the flexibility to work from anywhere in South Africa, while maintaining close ties with our Pretoria-based headquarters. You will have the autonomy to drive risk initiatives and contribute significantly to the strategic direction of Our client's risk management functions. Your insights will be vital in navigating the complex and evolving regulatory landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive risk management frameworks and policies across various financial entities.
• Identify, assess, and quantify key risks, including market, credit, operational, liquidity, and compliance risks.
• Design and execute risk mitigation strategies and action plans.
• Monitor and report on the risk profile of the organization to senior management and the board.
• Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and industry best practices.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and stress testing exercises.
• Develop and deliver risk management training programs to employees at all levels.
• Oversee the incident management process and ensure appropriate post-incident reviews are conducted.
• Collaborate with internal audit, compliance, and other control functions.
• Stay informed about emerging risks and evolving regulatory landscapes.

Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in risk management, with a significant focus on financial institutions.
• In-depth knowledge of risk management principles, methodologies, and tools (e.g., VaR, scenario analysis, KRI development).
• Strong understanding of relevant financial regulations (e.g., Basel III/IV, Solvency II, FICA, Companies Act).
• Proven experience in developing and implementing risk frameworks and policies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Proficiency in risk management software and data analysis tools.
• Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Professional certifications such as PRMIA, FRM, or CFA are highly advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and lead initiatives in a remote setting, with occasional travel to Pretoria, Gauteng .
• Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with senior management.
