Role overview

An established investment and wealth management business is seeking an experienced Risk and Insurance Adviser to provide specialist risk‑management and insurance advice to individual clients, high‑net‑worth individuals, business owners and corporate decision‑makers.

The successful candidate will assess clients’ personal and business risks and recommend suitable long‑term insurance and risk‑management solutions, with a strong focus on business assurance, key‑person insurance, buy‑and‑sell agreements, shareholder protection, contingent liability cover, estate planning, life and disability insurance, severe illness cover, income protection and high‑net‑worth personal risk planning.

This is a client‑facing advisory position requiring the credibility to engage sophisticated private clients, entrepreneurs, business owners, executives and larger corporate organisations. It is not suited to a purely administrative insurance professional.

The client has confirmed a salary range of approximately R30,000 to R50,000 per month depending on experience and capability. Once the adviser exceeds the applicable salary underpin, commission earnings are uncapped.

This is an Employment Equity position, with preference for suitably qualified B‑BBEE candidates.

Key responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed personal financial‑needs and risk analyses, assessing life, disability, severe illness and income‑protection requirements and identifying shortfalls in existing cover.
  • Structure cover according to the client’s financial position, reviewing beneficiary nominations, ownership structures and estate‑liquidity requirements.
  • Deliver business‑assurance planning across key‑person insurance, buy‑and‑sell agreements, shareholder protection, partnership assurance, contingent liability cover, loan‑account protection and business succession.
  • Review company and shareholder structures, quantify business‑assurance requirements and structure suitable policy ownership and beneficiary arrangements.
  • Provide specialist risk advice to affluent and high‑net‑worth clients, coordinating with family offices, trustees, accountants and attorneys.
  • Research and compare insurance products, obtain quotations, and present professional proposals and recommendations.
  • Generate new business through referrals, professional networks and centres of influence, and manage applications from submission through to implementation.
  • Manage and service an allocated client portfolio, conducting regular reviews and maintaining proactive client communication.
  • Support clients through claims notification, documentation and insurer liaison.
  • Maintain FAIS fit‑and‑proper status, current CPD records, complete Records of Advice and audit‑ready client files.
Minimum Requirements
  • Matric.
  • RE5 completed.
  • Relevant Class of Business training completed.
  • FAIS compliant and fit and proper.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in insurance, risk planning or financial advice.
  • Strong long‑term insurance experience, including conducting financial‑needs and risk analyses.
  • Experience structuring and presenting risk solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of life, disability, severe illness and income‑protection products.
  • Knowledge of FAIS and FSCA regulatory requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, high attention to detail and sound analytical ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant qualification in Financial Planning, Finance, Insurance or Risk Management.
  • NQF Level 5 or higher financial‑services qualification.
  • CFP® designation, or progress toward a recognised financial‑planning qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience advising high‑net‑worth clients, business owners and corporate decision‑makers.
  • Existing referral or professional network and strong insurer relationships.
  • Experience within a wealth‑management or investment environment.
  • Strong new‑business production record and experience with advanced business‑assurance structures.
Skills and competencies
  • Strong risk‑product knowledge and business‑assurance expertise.
  • Sound commercial judgement, negotiation and closing ability.
  • Financial‑needs analysis and solution structuring.
  • Relationship management with senior decision‑makers.
  • Ability to explain complex structures simply.
