Placements24 is seeking a strategic Retail Buyer for its Nelspruit-based team. The role focuses on identifying market opportunities, sourcing innovative products, and negotiating favorable terms with suppliers to enhance the home goods assortment and profitability.

The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for design and consumer trends, strong negotiation skills, and at least 5 years in retail buying within home decor or furniture. Relocation to Mpumalanga/Nelspruit may be required.

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic and expanding retailer of home goods and decor, is seeking a strategic and trend-aware Retail Buyer to join their team in Nelspruit. This critical role involves identifying market opportunities, sourcing innovative products, and negotiating favorable terms with suppliers to enhance the company's product offering and profitability. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for design, a strong understanding of consumer trends in the home goods market, and proven negotiation skills. You will be responsible for curating a compelling product assortment that resonates with customers in Mpumalanga and drives sales for the business. This position offers a significant opportunity to shape the product landscape for a growing retail brand based in Nelspruit.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and identify emerging trends in the home goods and decor market to inform product selection.
• Source new suppliers and products, evaluating their quality, pricing, and reliability.
• Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers to achieve optimal cost efficiencies.
• Develop and manage product assortments for various retail channels, ensuring alignment with brand strategy and target customer profiles.
• Analyze sales data, inventory levels, and market performance to make informed buying decisions.
• Collaborate with marketing and visual merchandising teams to ensure effective product presentation and promotion.
• Manage product lifecycle, from initial sourcing to end-of-life strategies.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and partners.
• Monitor competitor product offerings and pricing strategies.
• Attend trade shows and industry events to identify new product opportunities and network with suppliers in the Mpumalanga region and beyond.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in retail buying, preferably within the home goods, furniture, or decor sector.
• Proven track record in product sourcing, negotiation, and vendor management.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends.
• Excellent understanding of the home goods market and consumer behavior.
• Proficiency in Excel and experience with retail buying software.
• Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel domestically and potentially internationally as required for sourcing.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
