Placements24 is seeking a Retail Architect to lead the architectural design and development of retail spaces in Bloemfontein, Free State. You will design flagship stores, shopping centres and pop-ups, collaborating with clients, brand teams and contractors to translate concepts into tangible environments that drive sales.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years in retail design, a strong portfolio and proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture from a recognised institution.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in architectural practice with a significant focus on retail design projects.
• Proven track record of designing successful and engaging retail spaces for diverse brands.
• Strong portfolio showcasing flagship stores, shopping centres and F&B outlets.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Understanding of retail planning, customer flow, merchandising and branding integration.
• Excellent communication, presentation and client management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced industry.
• Knowledge of materials, construction techniques and FF&E specs relevant to retail environments.
• Registration with SACAP or eligibility for professional registration is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design and development of retail projects, including new builds, renovations and fit-outs.
• Collaborate with clients, brand managers, marketing teams and contractors to understand objectives and brand strategies.
• Develop concept designs, floor plans, elevations and detailed drawings for retail spaces in the Free State.
• Ensure designs are commercially viable, functional and enhance the customer experience.
• Select materials, finishes and lighting to create appealing retail environments in Bloemfontein.
• Manage project timelines, budgets and resources from design inception to completion.
• Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies for potential retail developments.
• Coordinate with consultants, engineers and suppliers for seamless execution.
• Stay updated on trends in retail design, consumer psychology and emerging tech.
• Ensure designs comply with building codes, safety regulations and accessibility standards.
