Job summary

WSP in Africa in Midrand is seeking an experienced engineer to join our Energy team. You will lead technical advisory for utility-scale Solar PV and Wind projects, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs and guiding projects from feasibility through commissioning.

You will engage investors, developers and lenders, contribute to proposals, and mentor junior engineers while upholding WSP’s SHEQ standards and ensuring quality outcomes across Southern Africa.

Qualifications

• BSc or BTech in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (3–6 years postgrad renewable energy exp).
• Experience advising investors, developers or lenders across feasibility, development, construction and commissioning.
• Knowledge of Solar PV plant design, energy yield and grid connection interfaces.
• Experience with utility-scale projects (ground-mounted, building-mounted, fixed-tilt or tracking).
• ECSA registration as a Candidate Engineer; professional registration advantageous or pursuing Pr Eng within 1–3 years.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical advisory assignments for utility-scale Solar PV and Wind projects.
• Coordinate inputs across mechanical, electrical, civil, control and instrumentation.
• Provide design review, procurement support, and commissioning oversight.
• Prepare specifications, tenders, evaluations, and contractor selection.
• Support due diligence, financial close and review of EPC and O&M contracts.
• Identify risks and recommend practical mitigations.
• Develop proposals, scope and price services to grow business.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote SHEQ standards.
