Placements24 is seeking a Renewable Energy Electrical Engineer to contribute to solar, wind and hybrid projects in Port Elizabeth. You will design, develop, and implement electrical systems, focusing on efficiency, reliability, and grid integration.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, at least 6 years’ experience with renewable energy systems, and hands-on experience with inverters, energy storage, and grid codes.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on renewable energy systems.
• Experience with solar PV, energy storage, or wind turbine electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for renewable energy projects (PV arrays, storage, grid connection).
• Perform power system analysis including load flow and fault studies.
• Select components (inverters, transformers, switchgear, protection relays).
• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, and SA grid codes.
• Oversee installation, commissioning, and testing on project sites around Port Elizabeth.
• Collaborate with project managers and other engineers to ensure project execution.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a specialized Renewable Energy Electrical Engineer to contribute to their pioneering projects in Port Elizabeth . This role is focused on the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems for solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects. You will be at the forefront of developing sustainable energy solutions, ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and grid integration of renewable power generation facilities. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of power electronics, grid interconnection standards, and project management within the Eastern Cape 's burgeoning green energy sector. This is a hands-on role requiring site presence and a commitment to advancing clean energy in South Africa .

Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer electrical systems for renewable energy projects, including PV arrays, battery storage, and grid connection infrastructure.
• Perform detailed power systems analysis , including load flow, fault studies, and transient stability for grid-tied and off-grid systems.
• Specify and select key electrical components such as inverters, transformers, switchgear, and protection relays.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE) and South African grid codes .
• Oversee the installation, commissioning, and testing of electrical systems on project sites in and around Port Elizabeth .
• Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a significant focus on renewable energy systems.
• Proven experience with solar PV system design , energy storage solutions, or wind turbine electrical systems.
• Familiarity with power system simulation software (e.g., PSS/E, PSCAD, HOMER).
• Understanding of grid interconnection requirements and power quality issues.
• Excellent project management and communication skills.
