Job summary

Greys Recruitment is seeking a senior payroll manager to lead a large payroll function in South Africa. The role requires Payspace experience, a strong accounting background, and extensive knowledge of payroll legislation.

You will manage end-to-end payroll for 1000+ employees, drive process improvements, ensure accuracy and compliance, and oversee budgeting and team development.

Qualifications

• Payspace payroll system experience required.
• 10 years payroll management experience with 3 years in managerial role and 3 years in payroll system/interface role.
• Budgeting experience essential.
• Knowledge of labour legislation (LRA, BCEA, COIDA, OSHA, POPI).
• Solid reconciliation and accounting background.
• Advanced MS Word and Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Maximise payroll processing efficiency and controls, including automation.
• Audit payroll systems, rules, calculations and legislative application.
• Ensure accurate input, payments and end-of-month/year payroll reporting.
• Implement remuneration policies and staff training.
• Lead and mentor the remuneration department and team.
• Manage budgets and department spend vs. actuals.
• Oversee payroll systems interfaces with other systems.
• Ensure payroll compliance with all relevant laws.

Key requirement

• Payspace experience-Must have Payspace payroll system experience
• Tertiary qualification and/or relevant payroll related qualification
• Budget experience: compilation and controlling of budgets essential
• Tax submissions
• Accounting background experience
• Very strong sound reconciliation experience
• Computer skills (both MS Word and Excel at advanced level)
• Payroll management (including management of capturing, reconciling, control processes)
• Knowledge of legislation applicable to payroll
• Report writing skills on payspace
• 10 years relevant payroll management experience of which 3 years must be in a managerial payroll role and 3 years in payroll system/implementation/interface role
• Complex payroll processing
• Extensive experience in financial monthly and weekly payrolls in excess of 1000 employees with multiple conditions of employment
• Solid financial and accounting acumen
• In-depth knowledge of the relevant labor laws, i.e LRA, BCEA, COIDA, OSHA, POPI, Income Tax Act, Wage Determination Act, as well as Bargaining Council Agreements and payroll best practices

Key responsibility

• Maximizing the effectiveness and efficiency of payroll processing, procedures and controls including the streamlining and automation of processes
• Regularly monitor and assess/audit integrity of payroll systems, rules, calculations and application of legislation
• Conduct payroll reviews and ensure accuracy of input and payments
• Implementation of remuneration policy, philosophy and practices
• Leading and managing the remuneration department and team
• End-of-months, end-of-year and end-of-tax year payroll reporting including financial reporting, provisions and reconciliations
• Develop, implement, mentor and train by continuously improving and writing payroll policies, procedures and administrative processes as well as internal workflows, processes and procedures
• Compiling and managing a departmental budget and monitoring against actuals
• Management of the payroll and Time & Attendance systems and interfaces to and from systems
• Ensure legal compliance on all aspects of the payroll functions
