Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field; Master's preferred.
• Valid teaching certification and credentials in Special Education.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching students with special needs, preferably virtual/online.
• Proficiency with LMS, online tools, and video conferencing (Zoom, Google Meet).
• Strong knowledge of SPED law and best practices in virtual instruction.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills; able to work independently remotely.

About the Role

Our client is a forward-thinking educational services provider seeking a dedicated and innovative Remote Special Education Teacher to join their growing virtual learning team. This position is entirely remote, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality special education services to students with diverse learning needs, utilizing advanced online teaching platforms and methodologies. You will develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), facilitate engaging virtual learning experiences, and collaborate with a distributed network of educators, parents, and support staff. This role is critical in ensuring that students receive equitable and effective educational support, irrespective of their physical location. The focus is on leveraging technology to overcome barriers and deliver specialized instruction tailored to each student's unique requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deliver specialized instruction and interventions for students with identified special educational needs via a virtual learning environment.
• Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for assigned students, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
• Utilize a variety of online tools, digital resources, and adaptive technologies to create engaging and accessible learning experiences.
• Conduct virtual assessments to monitor student progress and identify areas for growth or additional support.
• Collaborate closely with parents/guardians, general education teachers, and other support professionals through virtual meetings and communication platforms.
• Maintain accurate and detailed student records, including progress reports, attendance, and IEP documentation, in accordance with district policies.
• Provide ongoing feedback and communication to students and their families regarding academic performance and behavioral progress.
• Participate in virtual professional development opportunities and team meetings to enhance instructional practices and stay current with special education trends.
• Adapt teaching strategies and materials to accommodate a wide range of disabilities, including learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and intellectual disabilities.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
• Valid teaching certification and specialized credentials in Special Education (e.g., qualification for specific disability categories).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching students with special needs, preferably with some experience in virtual or online settings.
• Proven ability to develop and implement effective IEPs.
• Proficiency in using various educational technologies, learning management systems (LMS), and video conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet).
• Strong understanding of special education law and best practices in virtual instruction.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and remotely.
• Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to advocating for the needs of students with disabilities.
• A reliable internet connection and a dedicated home office space conducive to remote work.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa.
