Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on experience designing solar PV systems for residential, commercial or industrial projects.
• Proficiency with solar design software such as PVSyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD or similar.
• Strong understanding of electrical principles, solar technologies, inverters, batteries and grid-tied systems.

About the Role

Our client, a rapidly expanding company focused on driving the adoption of solar energy solutions, is seeking a talented and motivated Remote Solar PV System Designer. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to contribute your expertise from anywhere. You will be responsible for the end-to-end design of photovoltaic (PV) systems for residential, commercial, and industrial clients across various regions. Your work will be crucial in ensuring that our solar installations are efficient, reliable, and compliant with all relevant standards and regulations. This role is perfect for an experienced designer who thrives in a flexible, work-from-home environment and is passionate about contributing to a sustainable future. You will collaborate extensively with sales, engineering, and installation teams, primarily through digital communication channels.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer solar PV systems, including system sizing, component selection (panels, inverters, batteries, mounting), and electrical schematics, using industry-leading software.


• Create detailed layout plans, wiring diagrams, and performance simulations for PV installations.


• Ensure all designs comply with national electrical codes, local regulations, and specific client requirements.


• Conduct site assessment reviews (using provided data and satellite imagery) to inform system design.


• Generate comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM) for proposed systems.


• Collaborate closely with sales teams to provide technical support during the proposal phase.


• Work with the engineering and installation teams to ensure smooth project execution and address any design-related queries.


• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of solar PV technologies, products, and industry best practices.


• Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and documentation standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience will be considered.


• A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in designing solar PV systems for various applications.


• Proficiency with solar design software such as PVSyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, or similar tools.


• Strong understanding of electrical principles, solar panel technologies, inverters, battery storage systems, and grid-tied systems.


• Knowledge of relevant South African electrical standards and grid connection requirements is a plus.


• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote, team-based environment.


• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.


• Self-motivated and able to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
