Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geologist with expert knowledge in petroleum systems to join a global exploration team. The role is fully remote and supports projects potentially near Stellenbosch, focusing on hydrocarbon generation, migration, and accumulation in basins.

The position requires a Ph.D. or Master’s in Geology with at least 10 years in exploration geology and strong skills in basin modeling, geochemical analyses, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Geology with a focus on petroleum systems.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in exploration geology, with significant exposure to petroleum system analysis.
• Proficiency in software for basin modeling, source rock analysis, and data integration.
• Strong understanding of structural geology, sedimentology, and stratigraphy.
• Experience working with diverse geological datasets and global basins.

Responsibilities

• Analyze geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to define and evaluate petroleum systems.
• Model source rock potential, maturation history, migration pathways, and reservoir quality.
• Assess seal integrity and identify potential hydrocarbon accumulation mechanisms.
• Conduct basin analysis and play fairway mapping to prioritize exploration targets.
• Collaborate with exploration managers and subsurface teams to develop exploration strategies.
• Prepare detailed technical reports and present findings and recommendations.
