Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Formulation Scientist for a fully remote role based in South Africa. You will lead formulation development from early design through scale-up, shaping lifecycle management and novel dosage forms across indications.

The ideal candidate has a Ph.D./MSc in pharma sciences and 6+ years in drug product development, with GMP/regulatory insight and strong communication to mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 6 years hands-on formulation development experience.
• Expertise in dosage form technologies and solid-state chemistry.
• Strong GMP/process validation knowledge and regulatory awareness.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with ability to lead remote projects.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize drug delivery systems and dosage forms.
• Conduct pre-formulation studies to characterize drug substances and excipients.
• Develop robust manufacturing processes and support tech transfer.
• Perform stability studies and define shelf-life and storage conditions.
• Troubleshoot formulation and manufacturing challenges with effective solutions.
• Collaborate with analytical development, DMPK, and regulatory teams.
• Prepare technical reports, development summaries, and regulatory submissions.
• Stay current with new technologies and industry trends in formulation.
• Mentor junior scientists and contribute to the team's scientific strategy.
