Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an innovative Research Chemist to join a growing Pharmaceutical Development team in Port Elizabeth with a remote capacity. You will design, synthesize, and characterize novel chemical entities with therapeutic potential, contributing to the drug discovery pipeline from hit identification through lead optimization.

The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled synthetic organic chemist, capable of working independently in a virtual research environment and collaborating

Qualifications

• PhD in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry required.
• Minimum of 4 years of postdoctoral or industrial experience in pharmaceutical R&D.
• Extensive hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry and purification.
• Proficiency in analytical characterization methods (NMR, MS, HPLC).

Responsibilities

• Design and synthesize novel organic molecules using diverse methodologies.
• Purify and characterize compounds using NMR, MS, and HPLC.
• Develop structure-activity relationships (SAR) through iterative synthesis and biological testing.
• Optimize lead compounds for potency, selectivity, and PK properties.
• Collaborate with project teams to define synthetic strategies and milestones.
