Job summary

HotelJobs is partnering with a private luxury reserve in the Northern Cape to recruit an experienced Technical Services Manager. This role balances guest-facing infrastructure with off-grid wilderness operations, owning the reserve’s buildings, utilities, fleet, and technical systems.

You will lead a team, manage annual maintenance budgets, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards while driving sustainability and conservation goals on a remote site.

Qualifications

• Qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering or related field.
• At least 7 years in engineering or maintenance, preferably in hospitality.
• Strong understanding of sustainable technologies including solar, water filtration, waste management.
• Experience with facilities management systems and project planning tools.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to live on-site in a remote environment.
• Proven leadership, organization and problem-solving skills.
• Flexible, hands-on and resilient; available for emergencies outside standard hours.
• Familiarity with conservation-driven operations and sustainable resource use.
• Comfortable living/working in a remote wilderness; ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Manage solar power, generators, and battery systems.
• Oversee water supply, purification, and waste management.
• Maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and IT infrastructure.
• Service reserve vehicle fleet and equipment.
• Lead and develop a maintenance team; manage budget and procurement.
• Ensure health, safety, and environmental standards are met.
• Support sustainability goals and reduce ecological footprint.
• Promote green building practices across operations.
