Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate technology-focused contracts, including SaaS agreements, software licenses, master service agreements (MSAs), and statements of work (SOWs).
• Provide legal advice on intellectual property protection, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets.
• Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., POPIA, GDPR) and advise on data security matters.
• Support product development teams on legal and regulatory aspects of new technologies.
• Conduct legal due diligence for technology partnerships, mergers, and acquisitions.
• Advise on open-source software compliance and related legal issues.
• Manage and resolve disputes related to technology agreements and IP.
• Collaborate with engineering, product management, and sales teams remotely.
• Develop and maintain standard legal templates and playbooks for technology transactions.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and relevant legal and regulatory developments.

Requirements

• A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or equivalent qualification.
• Admission as an Attorney or Advocate of the High Court of South Africa.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience specializing in technology transactions, intellectual property, and data privacy law.
• Proven track record of drafting and negotiating complex technology agreements.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and IP strategies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, effective for remote interaction.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
• Proficiency with legal tech tools and virtual collaboration platforms.
