Placements24 is seeking a Lead Subsurface Geologist for a fully remote role within South Africa. You will lead geological interpretation, prospect evaluation, resource estimation, and define exploration strategies for hydrocarbon assets, with collaboration across remote teams.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s or PhD in Geology or Petroleum Geology, has 12+ years in subsurface geology in oil and gas, and excels in seismic interpretation, well logs, and play fairway mapping.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology, Petroleum Geology, or a related Earth Science discipline.
• 12+ years of progressive subsurface geology experience with focus on exploration and development in Oil & Gas.
• Expertise in seismic interpretation, well log analysis, sequence stratigraphy, and sedimentology.
• Proficiency with Petrel, Kingdom, GeoGraphix.
• Strong leadership and remote-team management capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead geological evaluation of exploration and development opportunities, including prospect generation and risk assessment.
• Oversee interpretation of seismic, well logs, and core data to delineate reservoirs and depositional environments.
• Develop and maintain integrated subsurface models using geological, geophysical, and engineering data.
• Mentor and guide a team of geologists, providing technical direction and professional development.
• Collaborate with geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and drilling engineers to optimize field development plans.
• Prepare high-quality geological reports, presentations, and recommendations for management and joint venture partners.
• Contribute to the company's geological strategy and technological advancement.
• Ensure data quality, consistency, and adherence to industry best practices and company standards.
