Job summary

Placements24 is recruiting a Lead Solar PV Design Engineer for a fully remote position. You will guide the design of utility-scale and commercial PV systems, mentor junior engineers, and ensure high-quality engineering outputs from concept to construction-ready documentation.

The role demands strong electrical engineering knowledge, PV design software proficiency, and leadership abilities to coordinate cross-functional teams on diverse projects across South Africa and beyond.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 6 years in solar PV design; at least 2 years in lead or senior role.
• Proficiency in PV design software (PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD).
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities; able to mentor juniors.

Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptual and detailed design of solar PV systems, including architecture, components, and layout optimization.
• Develop engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs for project execution.
• Perform electrical design calculations (string sizing, voltage drop, inverter matching).
• Ensure designs comply with international and South African codes, standards, and client requirements.
• Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for new PV projects.
• Review and approve designs by junior engineers and external consultants.
• Collaborate with project managers, procurement, and construction teams.
• Provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
• Stay updated on PV technologies, software tools, and best practices.
• Mentor and guide junior design engineers to foster technical excellence.
