The role requires a strong track record in distributed systems, leadership, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP). A PhD is a plus; 30 days leave and equity may be offered.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• PhD is a plus.
• Minimum 10 years in software development with at least 5 years in lead architecture roles.
• Strong experience designing large-scale distributed systems and microservices architectures.
• Deep expertise in cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of IoT, data analytics, and AI/ML concepts in energy management.

About the Role

Our client, a pioneering force in the clean Energy technology space, is seeking a highly accomplished and innovative Remote Lead Software Architect. This position is fully remote, allowing you to contribute your expertise from anywhere in South Africa. You will be responsible for defining the architectural vision and technical roadmap for our next-generation energy management platforms. This includes designing scalable, secure, and high-performance software solutions that leverage cutting-edge technologies like IoT, AI, and cloud computing. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with a deep understanding of software architecture, a passion for sustainable energy, and a proven ability to guide engineering teams in building robust and intelligent systems. You will play a crucial role in shaping the future of how energy is managed and consumed, from grid operations to consumer applications, based out of Paarl, Western Cape but accessible nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and drive the overall software architecture for energy management platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Design and oversee the development of microservices-based architectures, leveraging cloud-native technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Lead the selection and implementation of appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools for software development.
• Architect solutions for integrating IoT devices, data analytics platforms, and AI/ML models for predictive energy management.
• Collaborate closely with product management, engineering teams, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Establish and enforce coding standards, design patterns, and best practices across development teams.
• Mentor and guide software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
• Conduct code reviews and architectural design sessions to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
• Evaluate and integrate third-party solutions and APIs to enhance platform functionality.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; a PhD is a plus.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a lead architecture or principal engineer role.
• Proven experience designing and building large-scale, distributed systems and microservices architectures.
• Deep expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong understanding of data engineering, real-time data processing, and data analytics.
• Experience with IoT platforms, protocols, and integration strategies.
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and their application in energy management.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts.
• Experience in agile development methodologies.
