Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Lead Avionics Software Engineer to steer embedded flight control software development. You will design, implement, and validate RTOS-based modules for safety-critical avionics while collaborating with remote teams across South Africa.

The role requires a strong C/C++ background, DO-178C experience, and leadership to guide junior engineers. You will drive standards, docs, and testing in a highly collaborative, remote-friendly environment.

Qualifications

• DO-178C safety‑critical lifecycle experience is required.
• Proven embedded software development with RTOS (VXWorks/RTEMS or equivalents).
• Strong C/C++ programming skills and debugging proficiency.
• Experience with avionics interfaces such as ARINC 429 and MIL-STD-1553.
• Leadership and strong written/oral communication for remote teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development and testing of embedded avionics software.
• Create robust flight control, navigation and comms software components.
• Develop and maintain RTOS drivers and real-time software layers.
• Conduct code reviews, unit and integration testing for safety-critical apps.
• Mentor junior engineers and document designs and test procedures.
