Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Principal Avionics Software Engineer in Cape Town to lead the development of safety-critical software for next-generation aircraft systems. This hands-on technical leadership role focuses on embedded software, RTOS usage, and DO-178C compliance.

The ideal candidate brings at least 12 years in avionics software, with a strong background in C/C++, architecture, and leadership. Relocation support is available for international candidates, with a competitive package and

Qualifications

Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in avionics software development.
Extensive experience with C/C++ programming for embedded systems.
Deep understanding of RTOS and their application in aerospace.
Proven experience with DO-178C (Level A or B).
Strong leadership, communication, and project delivery skills.

Responsibilities

Lead design, development, and implementation of safety-critical avionics software per DO-178C.
Architect complex software systems and define requirements, patterns, and standards.
Develop embedded software for avionics modules like flight control, navigation, comms.
Utilize RTOS and embedded development tools.
Perform rigorous verification and validation including unit/integration/system tests.
Mentor junior engineers and drive documentation and best practices.
