Our client, a visionary in electric vehicle technology, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Remote Lead Automotive Battery Systems Engineer to drive the innovation and development of our advanced battery solutions. This is a fully remote position, offering you the opportunity to shape the future of EV energy storage from your chosen location. You will lead critical aspects of battery pack design, thermal management, battery management systems (BMS), and integration into vehicle platforms. Your expertise will be paramount in ensuring the safety, performance, and longevity of our client's battery systems, contributing to their leadership in the clean energy automotive space. While remote, this role will involve collaboration with teams supporting operations or development that may have ties to Bloemfontein .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and validation of high-voltage battery systems for electric and hybrid vehicles.
• Develop detailed specifications for battery cells, modules, battery management systems (BMS), and thermal management systems.
• Oversee the integration of battery systems into vehicle architectures, ensuring safety, performance, and manufacturability.
• Manage and mentor a team of battery systems engineers, fostering technical excellence and innovation.
• Conduct rigorous testing and validation of battery systems, including performance, safety, and durability testing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in battery chemistry, materials, and manufacturing technologies.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant automotive safety standards and regulations (e.g., UN 38.3, ECE R100).
• Develop strategies for battery lifecycle management, including second-life applications and recycling.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in automotive battery system design and development, with proven leadership experience.
• Deep understanding of battery cell technologies (e.g., Li-ion chemistries), pack design, and BMS functionalities.
• Experience with thermal management strategies for battery systems.
• Proficiency with simulation tools for battery performance and thermal analysis (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, MATLAB/Simulink).
• Knowledge of automotive safety standards and testing procedures for high-voltage systems.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills, crucial for a remote role.
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a distributed team environment.
