About the Role

Our client, a leading innovator in automotive technology, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Automotive Systems Engineer with a specialization in electrification to join their advanced R&D team in Johannesburg, Gauteng . This hybrid role requires a blend of on-site collaboration with engineering teams and flexible remote work. You will be instrumental in the design, development, and integration of cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV) powertrain systems and components. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, battery technology, power electronics, and vehicle integration. This is a critical role for driving the future of sustainable mobility.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and validation of automotive electrical systems for electric vehicles, including battery management systems (BMS), inverters, converters, and charging systems.
• Define system requirements, specifications, and architecture for EV powertrains.
• Conduct system-level simulations, analysis, and testing to ensure performance, reliability, and safety targets are met.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, software, and testing engineers, throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Develop and implement robust validation plans and testing procedures for electrical components and systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to EV powertrain integration and performance.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in automotive electrification.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical growth of the team.
• Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for project stakeholders.

Requirements

• Requirements Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in automotive systems engineering, with a strong focus on electric vehicle powertrains.
• Proven expertise in battery management systems (BMS), power electronics, electric motor control, and charging technologies.
• Strong understanding of vehicle electrical architectures and communication protocols (e.g., CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
• Experience with simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS).
• Familiarity with automotive standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 26262, LV 123).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, demonstrating strong collaboration and independent work capabilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions.
