Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a visionary Insurance Data Scientist to drive data-driven insights across operations in South Africa, including the Stellenbosch region. This fully remote role offers flexibility to work from anywhere and collaborate with an international team of analytics experts.

You will develop predictive models for underwriting, pricing, claims, and fraud detection, analyze large datasets, and create dashboards to communicate outcomes to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience as a Data Scientist with a strong portfolio of modeling projects.
• Expertise in machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, and data mining techniques.
• Proficiency in programming languages like Python or R, and experience with SQL and big data technologies.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills to translate findings into business solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for predictive analytics, risk assessment, and fraud detection.
• Analyze large and complex datasets using advanced statistical techniques and programming languages (Python, R).
• Extract, clean, and transform data from various sources to prepare it for modeling and analysis.
• Develop dashboards and visualizations to communicate data insights and model performance to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with product, underwriting, and claims teams to identify opportunities for data-driven improvements.
• Stay at the forefront of data science methodologies and tools, applying them to solve insurance-specific challenges.
