Placements24 is seeking an innovative Data Scientist to join their advanced analytics team, working remotely from Port Elizabeth. You will develop models to predict ore grade, optimize maintenance, and improve efficiency across mining operations.

You will collaborate with geologists, engineers, and data engineers to translate business needs into data-driven solutions, leveraging Python or R and cloud platforms. This role emphasizes cutting-edge data science in the mining sector.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Data Science, CS, Statistics or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of professional Data Scientist experience in mining/resource sectors.
• Proficiency in Python or R and libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Experience with big data (Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Expertise in statistical modeling, ML algorithms, and data mining techniques.
• Excellent communication and remote-team collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy ML models for predictive analytics and optimization in mining.
• Analyze large datasets from geological surveys, logs, and sensor data.
• Translate business problems into data science projects with stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes.
