Job summary

Placements24 has partnered with a rapidly expanding telecommunications firm in the Northern Cape to hire a Data Network Specialist on a contract basis based in Kimberley. The role covers design, deployment, and maintenance of robust data network infrastructure to ensure performance, security, and reliability.

The ideal candidate will bring 4+ years of experience in data networks, strong TCP/IP knowledge (BGP/OSPF), firewall/VPN expertise, and hands-on work with Cisco or Juniper gear.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in data network design, implementation, and management.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and switching technologies.
• Experience with network security devices and concepts (firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs).
• Proficiency with network monitoring and analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark, SNMP).
• Experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar network hardware.
• Familiarity with wireless networking standards and technologies.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and deploy data network solutions, including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
• Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize speed and capacity.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
• Implement and maintain network security measures to protect against threats.
• Develop and manage network documentation, including diagrams, IP addressing schemes, and configuration guides.
• Plan and execute network upgrades and patching schedules.
• Collaborate with system administrators and other IT personnel to ensure seamless integration.
• Evaluate new network technologies and provide recommendations for improvements.
• Provide remote technical support and guidance to end-users and technical teams.
• Ensure network infrastructure complies with industry standards and best practices.
