Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
• At least 5 years in automotive powertrain development.
• Strong knowledge of ICE, EV, or hybrid powertrains.
• Experience with powertrain simulation tools (GT-SUITE, Amesim, MATLAB/Simulink).
• Familiarity with emissions and performance standards.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a global innovator in automotive propulsion systems, is seeking a talented Remote Automotive Powertrain Engineer . This position is fully remote, allowing you to contribute to the development of cutting-edge powertrain technologies from anywhere in South Africa. You will be involved in the design, analysis, and optimization of internal combustion engines, electric powertrains, or hybrid systems. This role requires a strong foundation in mechanical or electrical engineering principles, coupled with expertise in powertrain dynamics and control systems. We are looking for a driven and analytical engineer who can excel in a remote work environment and is passionate about advancing automotive efficiency and performance. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop new powertrain components or systems, focusing on efficiency, performance, and emissions reduction.
• Perform detailed analysis of powertrain performance using simulation tools (e.g., GT-SUITE, MATLAB/Simulink).
• Develop and calibrate powertrain control strategies for internal combustion engines, electric motors, or hybrid systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and manufacturing specialists.
• Conduct testing and validation of powertrain components and systems, analyzing results and recommending improvements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to powertrain performance, durability, and emissions.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for project stakeholders.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in automotive powertrains, including electrification.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of design and development processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive powertrain development or a closely related field.
• Strong understanding of internal combustion engine principles, electric vehicle powertrains, or hybrid systems.
• Experience with powertrain simulation and analysis software (e.g., GT-SUITE, Amesim, MATLAB/Simulink).
• Knowledge of powertrain control systems and calibration tools.
• Familiarity with automotive industry standards and regulations related to emissions and performance.
