Placements24 is sourcing a Remote Automotive Data Scientist to analyze large datasets from connected vehicles and manufacturing. You will apply statistical methods, ML, and visualizations to extract insights, predict trends, and support data-driven decisions across the business.

You will collaborate with international teams, build predictive models, run experiments, and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders while maintaining strong data governance and privacy.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist with real-world problem solving.
• Proficiency in Python or R and libraries like Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch.
• Strong SQL and database management experience.
• Familiarity with big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience in automotive data or related domain is highly preferred.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and remote-collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect, clean, and preprocess large, complex automotive datasets from various sources (e.g., vehicle telematics, manufacturing, customer feedback).

• Design and execute A/B tests and other experiments to evaluate the impact of new features or strategies.
• Create compelling data visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate with engineering, product management, and marketing teams to define key metrics and analytical approaches.
• Stay current with the latest research and advancements in data science, machine learning, and automotive analytics.
• Contribute to the development of data infrastructure and analytical tools to support ongoing research and development efforts.
• Mentor junior data scientists and share knowledge across the team.
• Ensure data privacy and security compliance in all analytical activities.
• Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership, driving data-driven improvements in the automotive sector.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, with a demonstrated track record of applying data science techniques to solve real-world problems.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and relevant libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Strong experience with SQL and database management.
• Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Excellent understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and experimental design.
• Experience in the automotive industry or with automotive data is highly preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, comfortable working in a remote, collaborative environment.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa and able to work remotely.
