Placements24 in South Africa is seeking a highly analytical Senior Automotive Data Scientist for a fully remote role. You will work from anywhere in SA to derive insights from large automotive datasets, build predictive models, and influence product and operations decisions.

You will collaborate with engineering, product, and business teams, mentor junior data scientists, and ensure data quality and regulatory compliance while staying current with ML research.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of professional data science experience in automotive/IoT/manufacturing contexts.
• Proficient in statistical modeling, ML techniques, and experimental design.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Collect, clean, and process large, complex datasets from various automotive sources (e.g., telematics, sensor data, customer interactions).
• Develop and implement advanced statistical models and machine learning algorithms for predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and forecasting.
• Design and conduct experiments to test hypotheses and evaluate the impact of various automotive initiatives.
• Visualize and communicate complex data findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to define data requirements and integrate data-driven features into automotive products.
• Develop dashboards and reports to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and track progress towards business objectives.
• Identify opportunities for data-driven improvements in vehicle design, manufacturing, sales, and after-sales services.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 6 years of professional experience as a Data Scientist, with a significant focus on the automotive industry or related fields (e.g., IoT, manufacturing).
• Expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning techniques (regression, classification, clustering, deep learning), and experimental design.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and associated data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and SQL.
• Strong data visualization skills using tools like Matplotlib, Seaborn, Tableau, or Power BI.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
• Effective communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex insights clearly.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a remote setting.
• Familiarity with automotive data standards and telematics systems is a strong plus.
