Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an accomplished Agricultural Data Scientist to join our client on a fully remote basis. You will leverage datasets from farming operations, environmental factors, and market dynamics to build predictive models and optimize resource allocation across the agricultural value chain.

The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. or Master's in a quantitative field, with extensive data science experience in agriculture, and strong skills in Python/R and ML libraries.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Agricultural Science with a quantitative focus, or a related field.
• Extensive experience as a Data Scientist with projects ideally in agriculture or related industry.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and associated data science libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, Pandas).
• Strong knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and experimental design.
• Experience with big data technologies and cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work independently in a remote setting.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for applications such as yield prediction, disease detection, and optimal resource management.
• Analyze large, complex agricultural datasets to extract meaningful insights and identify key drivers of performance.
• Develop data pipelines and preprocessing techniques to ensure data quality and integrity.
• Collaborate with domain experts (agronomists, farmers) to understand needs and translate them into data science solutions.
• Communicate complex analytical findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in data science, AI, and their applications in agriculture.
