Job summary

JMH (Pty) Ltd division ISIPINGO HOSPITAL seeks a Registered Nurse - Surgical ICU to provide age-appropriate care to critically ill patients in the SICU. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, monitor patients, and manage life-support equipment as part of daily duties.

The role requires SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, plus ICU experience and a 6-month ICU course. Night and day shifts are expected, with a focus on excellent patient care and strict infection control.

Qualifications

• Must be registered with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
• Preferably have two or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse in SICU.
• 6 months ICU Course.
• Must be prepared to do shiftwork (Night shift / Day Shift).

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill patients in the SICU.
• Assess, monitor, and manage patients with severe medical conditions including respiratory failure and multi-organ dysfunction.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the medical team, ensuring compliance with regulations.
• Monitor vital signs, laboratory results, and other critical parameters, responding to changes.
• Assist in managing life-support equipment such as ventilators, dialysis machines, and IV pumps.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create and implement care plans; provide emotional support to patients and families.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure infection control practices.

JOB TITLE: REGISTERED NURSE - SURGICAL ICU

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To Provide age-appropriate patient care according to the nursing scope of practice as defined by the South

African Nursing Council (SANC).

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill medical patients in the SICU.

Assess, monitor, and manage patients with severe medical conditions, including acute respiratory failure, multi-organ dysfunction, and severe infections.

Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the medical team, ensuring compliance with SANC regulations.

Monitor vital signs, laboratory results, and other critical parameters, promptly responding to any changes in patient conditions.

Assist in the management of life-supporting equipment such as ventilators, dialysis machines, and IV infusion pumps.

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create and implement individualized care plans for patients. Provide emotional support to patients and their families during critical care episodes.

Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting all aspects of patient care.

Ensure adherence to infection control practices and hospital protocols to maintain a safe and clean environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Must be registered with SANC as a Professional Nurse
