Job summary

Joint Medical Holdings is seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse to deliver high-quality patient care within the hospital setting. You will assess and plan care, collaborate with doctors and the multidisciplinary team, and monitor patient acuity to guide staffing decisions.

The role requires SANC registration, APC validity, and the ability to work shifts. Candidates should have ICU experience and strong computer literacy to manage documentation and patient data.

Qualifications

• Must be registered with SANC as a Registered Nurse with valid APC.
• Two or more years ICU RN experience preferred.
• Good interpersonal skills with doctors, patients and colleagues.
• Must be prepared to work additional hours and shiftwork.
• Must be computer literate – MS Word & Excel.
• Must be able to work independently under minimum supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care in accordance with the scope of practice, clinical guidelines, and organizational policies.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care while ensuring compliance with clinical care standards and care bundles.
• Monitor patient acuity and contribute to staffing decisions to ensure appropriate nursing care and skills mix.
• Ensure accurate patient documentation, billing-related information, and reconciliation of patient files.
• Promote stock management through correct usage, charging, monitoring of stock levels, and reporting shortages or expired items.
• Ensure safe handling, cleaning, storage, and maintenance of clinical equipment.
• Identify, manage, and elevate clinical risks, patient safety incidents, and infection prevention and control concerns.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews.
• Deliver patient-centred care by addressing patient concerns and promoting a positive patient experience.
• Provide guidance, support, and supervision to junior staff and healthcare team members.
• Participate in staff education, skills development, and maintain required clinical competencies and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and professional nursing standards.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To provide high-quality patient care according to the nursing scope of practice as defined by the South African Nursing Council (SANC).

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Minimum Requirements

• Must be registered with SANC as a Registered Nurse with valid APC.

• Preferably have two or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse in ICU.
• Preferably be trained or qualified.
• Must be prepared to work additional hours.
• Must be able to work independently under minimum supervision.
• Must be computer literate – MS Word & Excel.
• Must be prepared to do shiftwork (Night shift / Day Shift).
