Job summary

Somerset West-based care centre is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse with current SANC registration to join the team. The role includes supervising the care team, administering medications, and leading daily activities for elderly residents.

Responsibilities cover shift leadership, care plan oversight, infection control and safety, while ensuring dignity and quality of life for residents. Flexibility for day/night shifts and standby duties is required.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with current SANC registration and annual licence to practise.
• Minimum Grade 12 matric.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a care environment, elderly care essential.
• Dementia care experience advantageous.
• Proven leadership and team-management skills.
• Excellent communication and listening skills.
• Excellent organisational abilities.
• Self-driven and reliable under pressure.
• Friendly, professional, compassionate manner.
• Proficient in Outlook, Excel and Word.
• English proficiency; Afrikaans preferred.
• Willing to work flexible day and night shifts; standby duties and call-outs.
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate care activities on shift with a focus on holistic and clinical care.
• Develop relationships with residents, understanding background and needs.
• Administer medication and perform specialised nursing duties.
• Ensure medication is recorded per policies.
• Oversee care plans and maintain records.
• Maintain safety, records of abuse, complaints and directives.
• Promote independence and quality of life in a safe environment.
• Oversee daily activities programmes and multidisciplinary planning.
• Participate in recruitment and staff development.
• Maintain communication across shifts and with senior management.
• Attend meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
