Duties & Responsibilities
Fabrication and Assembly:
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings and schematics to fabricate components.
- Assemble boilers, tanks and other vessels using tools, welding, and cutting equipment.
Maintenance and Repairs:
- Inspect and maintain existing boilers and pressure vessels to ensure safe operation.
- Repair leaks, cracks and other damage to equipment using welding, bolting, or replacement of parts.
- Perform regular cleaning and descaling of tanks to prevent corrosion and buildup.
Safety Compliance:
- Follow strict safety protocols and industry standards, such as OHSA (Occupational Health and Safety Act) regulations.
- Conduct pressure and leak tests on vessels to verify structural integrity and compliance.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhere to workplace safety guidelines.
Welding and Cutting:
- Use specialized welding techniques, such as TIG, MIG, or arc welding, to join metal components.
- Operate cutting tools and machines, such as plasma cutters, oxy-fuel torches, and grinders to shape materials.
Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose mechanical or structural issues with boilers and vessels and determine appropriate solutions.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to resolve technical challenges.
Material Handling and Preparation:
- Select and prepare the appropriate materials for fabrication, including cutting, bending and shaping metal components.
- Ensure proper alignment and fit of materials before welding or assembly.
Quality Assurance:
- Conduct quality checks during and after fabrication to ensure accuracy and durability.
- Document and report defects or deviations from specifications.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with other trades, such as pipefitters, welders and engineers, to complete projects efficiently.
- Provide progress updates and maintain clear communication with supervisors and project managers.
Site Preparation and Installation:
- Prepare job sites for installation by ensuring necessary equipment and tools are available.
- Install boilers, tanks and pressure vessels securely and ensure proper connections to piping systems.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on advancements in welding techniques, materials, and safety standards.
- Participate in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge of industry practices.
Experience & Qualification
- 3- 5 years’ experience in related field.
- National Senior Certificate (Matric).
- Red Seal Certification in Boiler making.
- Good communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to perform work duties on his/her own or in a team.
- Must perform duties according to the Health and Safety standards.
