Job summary

Midvaal Local Municipality is seeking a General Worker for Roads & Stormwater to support construction, maintenance and repair activities. The role requires physical work, adherence to safety rules, and the ability to follow instructions in a municipal setting.

Preference will be given to Midvaal residents. Applicants must be prepared to work in road and stormwater projects, with a valid C1 license considered an advantage. CLOSING DATE: 16 October 2026.

Qualifications

• Grade 10 is minimum; Grade 12 adds advantage.
• Valid C1 Driver’s License (added advantage).
• Bilingual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to follow and execute given instructions.
• Good physical health, basic manual skills for road/stormwater work.
• 1 year of relevant experience in roads/stormwater construction or maintenance in Local Government.

Responsibilities

• Load and off-load materials and equipment while wearing PPE.
• Set up traffic signs to warn traffic about workers on municipal roads.
• Clean around the work area using broom and manual labour tools.
• Maintain tarred, gravel roads and stormwater services.
• Perform labour tasks as requested by supervisor/foreman/superintendent.
• Follow all legal instructions from the supervisor to ensure productivity.
• Carry out other ad hoc tasks as required by management.

• 01-year relevant experience minimum in roads and stormwater construction or maintenance, or rehabilitation within Local Government authority.

Preference will be given to Midvaal Residents only.

DUTIES

• Responsible for loading and off-loading of materials and equipment of the section while wearing the appropriate personal protective clothing issued to them by the section’s management.
• Put out traffic signs to warn traffic about workers next to municipal roads during road works.
• Clean in and around the working area of responsibility with broom and various manual labour equipment and tools to ensure clean environment.
• Maintenance of tarred, gravel roads and stormwater services.
• Do any labour related work when requested by either the supervisor, foreman or the superintendent of the section.
• Execution of all legal instructions from the supervisor to ensure productivity and smooth running of the section.
• Perform any other related Ad Hoc tasks and duties as requested or required by management (supervisor) from time to time.

SALARY

R 166 329.00 – R 182 280.00 p.a. (Level 13 of a Grade 8 Local Authority)
Total package inclusive of all benefits: R 307 561.08 p.a.
