Job summary

Servest Security is seeking a Reaction Officer with Grade B certification. The role involves visible patrolling, responding to emergencies, and ensuring an effective security system on the mine to protect assets from theft and damage.

Based in Secunda, you will supervise security members and lead the team. Requirements include Matric, PSIRA Grade B, 5 years’ security experience, firearm competencies, a valid permit, and a driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Matric/Grade 12 is required.
• Grade 10 or Grade 11 with minimum 5 years’ experience.
• Valid PSIRA Grade B Certificate is required.
• Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in the security industry.
• At least 2 years’ experience as a Reaction Officer or in armed response.
• Firearm competency certificates for relevant categories and business purpose.
• Valid firearm permit issued by company or authority.
• Knowledge of security operations and procedures.
• Valid Arm Respond certificate (not older than 5 years).
• Medical fitness certificate and valid drivers licence.
• Must reside in Secunda and have a valid Code 8/B licence (Code 10/C1 often preferred).

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an effective information network for collection and coordination of information to detect offences.
• Report all crime and mine-related information to shift supervisor or appointee.
• Investigate criminal activities and manage crime scenes with reporting.
• Monitor security measures on client premises and report results to shift supervisor.
• Parades to be held 15 minutes before shift start at designated area.
• Ensure vehicle is inspected and in good operating order for duties.
• Arrest individuals as warranted by law.
• Investigate irregularities and suspicions reported to you.
• Contact Security Control Room immediately when suspicions are positive.

The Reaction officer is responsible for visible patrolling duties, reaction to all emergencies and call outs, assist with the implementation and maintenance of an effective and efficient security system on the mine, to protect company assets against theft, abuse, misappropriation and wilful damage or loss as well as supervision of all security members. and lead the security team. The position is based in Secunda .

• Matric /Grade 12
• Grade 10 or Grade 11 report with minimum of 5 years’ experience
• Valid PSIRA Grade B Certificate
• Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in the security industry
• At least 2 years’ experience as a Reaction Officer or in armed response
• Experience in patrolling, alarm response, and emergency handling
• Firearm competency certificate for relevant categories (Handgun, Shotgun, Rifle)
• Firearm competency for Business Purpose (Handgun, Shotgun, Rifle)
• Valid firearm permit issued by company or authority
• Knowledge of security operations and procedure
• Valid Arm Respond certificate ( not more than 5 years)
• Medical fitness certificate
• Valid Drivers Licence
• Must reside in Secunda
• Excellent driving skills (Code 8/B licence – often Code 10/C1 preferred)
• Knowledge of firearms safety and handling procedures
• Ability to assess and respond to threats quickly
• Strong communication (radio and verbal) Fluent in English

• Basic computer literacy (for report logging and email)

Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an effective information network enabling the collection, evaluation and co-ordination of information from sources within and without the company, contributing to the detection and prevention of offences relating to fraud and theft.
• Reporting of all crime and mine related information to the Shift Supervisor, his delegate or any other appointee.
• Investigation of all criminal activities, crime scenes and management of such scenes inclusive of reporting such actions to Shift Supervisor without delay.
• Monitor the application of security measures on the client’s premises and report the results thereof to the Shift Supervisor.
• Parades must be held 15 minutes prior to the commencement of the shift at the designated area.
• Ensure that vehicle is inspected and in good operating order to perform your duties.
• Arrest any person committing a crime, which warrants an arrest as per Schedule Offences as per Criminal Procedures Act and Explosive Law.
• Investigate all irregularities and any suspicions reported to you.
• Contact the Security Control Room (TCS) immediately when suspicions and irregularities are positive.
