Our client is looking for a hands‑on Quality Control / SHE Officer to oversee quality control, safety, and compliance within a small‑scale production facility. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring repackaged dry pulses consistently meet required quality standards, while maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant working environment.
This is a practical, operational role requiring direct involvement in production inspections, quality checks, safety activities, and day‑to‑day operational supervision, with responsibility for ensuring company policies, procedures, and quality standards are effectively implemented.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct inspections and quality checks on incoming raw materials, packaging, production processes, and finished products
- Monitor product weights, sealing, labelling, date coding, sampling, and overall product quality
- Ensure compliance with GMP, food safety, hygiene, cleaning and sanitation, pest control, and quality management programmes
- Monitor pest control activities and liaise with external service providers
- Ensure production and QC checks are completed accurately and records are properly maintained
- Manage on‑hold, rejected, damaged, and non‑conforming products, including segregation, release, and disposal.
- Maintain product traceability, batch records, stock rotation (FIFO), and assist with mock recalls and traceability exercises
- Arrange external product testing, manage documentation, and follow up on out‑of‑specification results
- Train production staff on food safety, quality, hygiene, and food handling requirements.
- Assist with factory trials, first production runs, investigations, customer complaints, and corrective actions
- Participate in regulatory, customer, and third‑party audits and assist with corrective action responses
- Conduct daily SHE inspections, identify workplace hazards, and ensure appropriate PPE is used
- Monitor housekeeping, waste disposal, equipment safety, emergency preparedness, and safe working practices
- Report and assist with the investigation of incidents and near‑misses
- Support the implementation and ongoing compliance of company policies, procedures, quality systems, and food safety programmes
Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12 with relevant food industry experience and training.
- 1–2 years’ experience in a quality control, food safety, or SHE‑related role within the food industry
- Qualification or certification in Food Safety / GMP; FSSC 22000 Version 6 (advantageous)
- Good attention to detail with strong organisational and recordkeeping skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks
- Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Office
- Practical, hands‑on approach with the ability to work effectively in a production environment
Food Safety Requirements/ Responsibilities
- Enforce personnel hygiene, sanitation and food safety and quality related activities
- Perform and enforce Food Safety and Quality Control related activities as part of the Health and Safety and FSQMS
