Job summary

A leading food processing company in South Africa is seeking a Quality Assurance Manager to ensure compliance with Food Safety Systems in the Cannery Department. The role demands excellent communication skills, knowledge of HACCP and ISO standards, and at least 2 years of food processing experience. The successful candidate will manage quality control and assurance operations while ensuring adherence to legislative requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years food processing (FMCG) experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of HACCP (food safety) and ISO Systems, SHEQ.
  • Occupational Health & Safety and HACCP / FSSC Implementation certificates are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance of document control with Food Safety Systems.
  • Daily management of QC's / QC Supervisor.
  • Monitoring and investigating product complaints and returns.

Job description
Overview

This permanent position in our Cannery Department operates from Stompneus Bay. The incumbent reports to the Quality Assurance Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance of all aspects of document control with regards to the various Food Safety Systems and international certification bodies.
  • Key Job Outputs:
    • Management of all documented systems, including main documented system and all certification schemes
    • Calibration system and schedule
    • Various certification scheme documents
    • Corrective actions
    • Ad hoc information requests
  • Daily management of QC's / QC Supervisor
  • Management of Internal Defects
  • Management of Quality Standards Checks and take appropriate action to enable 100% compliance
  • Ensure all legislative requirements are met in all areas of the plant
  • Operational management of quality control and quality assurance, FSSC/ISO and HACCP
  • Participation in internal audits, external audits and customer visits and complaints
  • Monitoring and investigating product complaints and returns
  • Reporting on compliance with company and regulatory standards, both plant and warehouse facilities
  • Assistance during Plant Trials
  • Action any initiatives as directed by Food Safety & Quality Management
  • Willingness to work shifts and overtime when needed
  • Any other duties that will develop in an ever-changing environment
Knowledge, Skills And Attributes
  • Minimum of 2 years food processing (FMCG) experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of HACCP (food safety) and ISO Systems, SHEQ
  • Knowledge of FSSC 22000
  • Previous Quality Control experience in a FMCG environment is advantageous
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Ability to work systematically and independently

Qualifications, Competencies And Experience
  • Grade 12
  • Degree/Diploma in Food Science & Technology, Biochemistry/Food Microbiology
